College programs are always looking for versatile point guards who can act as an extension of the coaching staff on the floor. They look for guards who can distribute the basketball and see the entire floor. Lastly, they look for guard who can score the basketball at a high percentage.
Mason recruit Patrick Holloway can do it all.
Holloway, a 6-foot-1 senior from Paul VI Catholic in Fairfax, signed his National Letter of Intent to play basketball for Paul Hewitt in the 2012-13 season and will walk in to a team that will be looking to replace senior guard Andre Cornelius in the backcourt. He brings different style of basketball, meshing the philosophies of Bryon Allen and Corey Edwards, which may help him become an elite player in the CAA.
Though he does have that tendency to be a score-first point guard, Holloway brings a keen ability to see the floor and has displayed a willingness to spread the basketball. He isn’t the fastest nor the strongest player on the floor, but he has an extremely high basketball IQ that allows him to put himself – and his teammates – in the best position to succeed.
On Tuesday night, the Paul VI Catholic star eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau in his third year with the Panthers. His achievement was recognized on Friday night as Holloway turned in another solid outing to keep Paul VI, ranked No. 50 in the ESPNHS Top-50, undefeated on the season.
